Podcast: The Big Mob, STEM it up Project with Andrew Dowding
“Going to work with Elders is the thing that gets me out of bed. Combining traditional knowledge with the digital system and allowing community to hold and think about that space is what drives us here.”
Andrew Dowding, Managing Director of Winyama
Indigenous representation in the technology sector is few and far between. Realising this, Associate Professor, Marnee Shay and Quandamooka postdoctoral fellow, Ren Perkins from the University of Queensland launched a podcast series named “The Big Mob, STEM it up” which platforms Indigenous voices in STEM. The podcast series is part of a wider research project exploring the effectiveness of initiatives that support the retention and progression of underrepresented groups in STEM careers.
In Episode 12, Ren Perkins interviews Andrew Dowding, exploring his career in STEM. They yarn about Andrew’s educational background, sources of inspiration, barriers, and the influence culture has had in his approach as a Managing Director of an Indigenous tech company.
